What is Tang Soo Do?
Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan is a Korean
martial art founded by Grandmaster Hwang Kee in 1945, but
whose roots are centuries old. It is a
system that combines the superior kicking techniques of the Korean
arts with the circular hand techniques of various Chinese systems
and is considered both a “hard” and “soft” style.
The popularization of the martial
arts today comes primarily from TV and movies. Although Tang Soo Do
is currently taught in over 40 countries and is regularly featured
in all the major martial arts publications, it is most closely
associated with Chuck Norris who studied the art while
stationed in Korea and was one of the earliest returning servicemen
to begin teaching it in the U.S.
With many
martial arts to choose from today, it's important to understand the
differences - some are sport oriented, some
combat oriented, and a few are traditional in nature.
Tang Soo Do falls in the last
category. Not only is it an effective system of self-defense, but it
is truly an art geared to the development of the body, mind and
spirit of its practitioners. Regardless of age, gender or size,
Tang Soo Do has something for everyone.
Tang Soo Do is an art that needs to
be experienced and the best way to see what it has to offer is to start.
Of course, you can also come
by and watch a class. Visitors are always welcome!
Hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Master C. Terrigno
